Operation

These cars are designed for ease of use and minimal maintenance.

For best results we recommend you run them behind your locomotive(s), with the Cratex® roller toward the front.

The Monsoon™:
To operate The Monsoon, place it on the track. Use an eye dropper to fill the reservoir with track cleaning fluid of your choice. With a screwdriver, open metering valve one quarter turn for about ten seconds. (Time will vary with the type and viscosity of the fluid you use.) Close valve and run car for about five minutes and repeat the wetting process as many times as you feel necessary to clean the track to your satisfaction. Note: Do not over tighten filler plug. Caution: Do not use flammable fluids in car.

The Annihilator™:
Place The Annihilator on the track. Turn valve about one quarter turn for about ten seconds. Turn off and run for ten to fifteen minutes, or change times to suit. The Annihilator will clean in either direction but works best with the magnet to the rear.

Maintenance

The Cratex® roller:
The Cratex roller is designed to be used "dry." Do not use any chemicals such as mineral spirits, lacquer thinner or Goo Gone on the roller. Should this happen the roller may become damaged and have to be replaced.

When the roller becomes soiled, simply wash it in warm soapy water and scrub with a soft toothbrush. Rinse. Alllow it to air dry. Do not dry with a hair drier or in the oven, as excess heat may damage the roller.

The Sidewinder™ canvas covered roller:
The canvas roller can be washed using a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water; then rinse.

When the canvas needs to be replaced, put the roller in lacquer thinner or acetone. This loosens the cement so the canvas can be removed. Now apply a new piece of oversize canvas (artist's canvas available at your local art supply store). Apply the cement to the primed side, and let it set for a few minutes. Apply canvas to roller and let set approximatley 1/2 hour. After the cement has set up, trim the canvas to size with sharp scissors and a hobby knife. Clean off excess cement on sides of roller with a Q-tip moistened in lacquer thinner or acetone. Your Sidewinder is now ready to run again.

The brushes:
(Eliminator, Dominator and Avenger only)
Replacement brushes (6mm diameter pipe cleaners) are available at your local craft store. To replace the brushes, first remove the old ones. Insert a pipe cleaner by sliding it in from the side. Then trim both ends flush with the track cleaner chassis.
